This article is an ad promoting a rummage sale which is higlighted by 127 hats that were owned by the late Gloria Chandler a “local TV personality”. It is mentioned that she was “known for her hats” and mentioned there were several original pieces from high end fashion names like Dior and a couple others. In a way I think it simplifies her life, but also in a literary way, the fact that she “wore many hats” and did extraordinary things is interesting. The sale was approximately 2 months after her death and funds went to benefit Orthopedic. This posthumous mention that Gloria was known for her hats and had a sizeable collection is an interesting insight I never would have guessed about her personal life, and also shows her appreciation for high-end fashion.

This is a short listing of deaths with Gloria Chandler noted at age 78 and an address noted as 906 Highland Drive and a date of August 18. This date leads me to deduce she was born in 1898. I could research the address to see if there are any connections or significance.

Obituary gave me a few things to search.
1)She got an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Smith College in Massachusetts in 1968. Also, the way her name is listed on the Smith College I think she got an undergrad degree from there in 1919. Also notable alumni Gloria Steinem graduated from there in 1966 and got a LTD degree from there in 1988.
2) born in Chicago. Past research indicated her father owned a lumberyard of sorts.
3) she originated the radio series books bring adventure which won a peabody award or honorable mention for the junior league in 1946. Also at Peabody site, Wunda Wunda won one 1957, I think she influenced the 1974 How Come? TV program with Peabody win, and the Junior League got honorable mention in 1946.
4) Affiliated with and won awards from Theta Sigma Nu (or Phi?) a women journalism society, Pacific College, and Jason Lee Award of the Methodist Church in the Northwest.
4) 1960 area vice president for American Women in Television

An article in the G section about the society for the prevention of blindness and the work they do. There are 4-5 other articles reflecting on Gloria’s talk at Junior Programs Inc.
Coincidentally, I looked at another section of this page and saw a glowing Review of Louise Van Ogle’s performance at the Womens University Club. This was at least 7 years? ahead of the Adventures with 7 league boots. I wonder if the 7-league boots was also supposed to be a play on words since she worked for Junior League. THe article that was about Chandler was titled “Children’s Theatre Need is Stressed” and how theatre will train kids to be mentally tough and creative which are skills they will need for reconstruction / world building after war. Article notes active childrens programs in other cities including Portland’s “reading is fun”, dramatizations of recent Childrens books. This is how she built all of the content for Reading Brings Adventures?

Following several articles in the series, it notes that after a visit earlier in the month from junior league field worker Gloria Chandler, there are a several Junior League members preparing to put on 2 plays with local children in Dorthy Bullitt’s living room. This is the first noted connection although not super direct between Bullitt and Chandler.w Another Citation Format
